Includes the article ‘Indian Studies in Japan’ (1956) by Japanese scholar Hajime Nakamura, extracts from his book The Ways of Thinking of Eastern Peoples (1960) and the chapter ‘Indian Influence Upon Japanese Culture’ from his book Japan and Indian Asia: Their Cultural Relations in the Past and Present (1961). Also includes the chapter ‘The Formation of Japanese Thought; Spiritual Characteristics’ from the book Japan: It’s Land, People and Culture (1964) compiled by the Japanese Commission for UNESCO.
